The 13th Hye Ja Moon's Exhibition(Agora Gallery-2004.06.18)
Hye Ja Moon's appreciation of modern Jazz befits her attractive, casual, improvisational and intellectual tone of painting. Her works are breezy and fluidic abstractions. The colors and undulating rhythms allude to music. She makes visible the candid flow of jazzy musical notes in her brushstrokes.
There is no pretense or suffocating order, but rather her work is light and airy like the music that inspires her. Aptly titled[The Fantasy of Jazz,] her latest series of paintings reference an ethereal lightness of being, as experienced on a warm day, alone with that perfect music. Her work meshes warms and cools with a perfectly balanced natural dynamism. She paints to echo fiery sparks, and moving water. It is a collage of the most reaffirming and elemental parts of nature, brought together in harmonious union. Moon studied painting, particularly abstraction, with Edie Read at the Massachusetts Art College.
Her paintings have been exhibited at Gallery Fusion and the Sun and Moon Gallery in Korea. She has exhibited widely in Korea, the United States and Canada.
